Position Summary

An NDT Level III Specialist will develop, qualify and approve procedures, establish and approve techniques, interpret codes, standards, specifications and procedures, as well as designate the particular NDT methods, techniques, and procedures to be used. The NDT Specialist Level III should be responsible for the NDT operations for which he is qualified and assigned and should be capable of interpreting and evaluating results in terms of existing codes, standards and specifications. The NDT Specialist Level III should have sufficient practical background in applicable materials, fabrication and product technology to establish techniques and to assist in establishing acceptance criteria when none are otherwise available. The NDT Level III should have a general familiarity with other appropriate NDT methods (Electromagnetic Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Liquid Penetrant Testing, Radiographic Testing, Ultrasonic Testing), as demonstrated by an ASNT Level III Basic examination or other means.

The NDT Specialist will perform non-destructive testing (NDT) in a manufacturing environment on nuclear, medical, and aircraft parts and assemblies to the customer and internal requirements using various NDT methods with conventional and automated equipment. Perform tasks typical of a NAS-410, Level 2 in one or more of the following test methods: Ultrasonic, Radiography and/or Eddy Current. The Level III NDT Specialist will utilize experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to affect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and implement NDT techniques. Prepare and approve NDT procedures and other related NDT work instructions. Oversee the work of NDT personnel.

  • Perform NDT on nuclear, medical, and aerospace parts and interpret the test results in accordance with test procedures and process specifications. Document test results and interface with various production computer systems.

  • Operate radiographic testing equipment; such as x-ray equipment, robotic scanners, and computed radiography data acquisition systems.

  • Work with production and engineering as well as customer representatives for relevant quality/technical testing development procedures. Interpret customer specifications and industry, national and international standards. Interpret codes, standards, and contractual documents that control the methods and requirements to meet industry and customer requirements.

  • Provide technician training to Quality Inspectors and training documentation for inspection procedures

  • Develop, revise and approve written practice, procedures, and instructions in accordance with ASNT guidelines.

  • Perform NDT program compliance audits

  • Aid in the selection of NDT Level III contractors.

  • Assist in the development of new methods and techniques to improve processes and quality of products. Perform development activities to establish methods to produce required product and material quality.


  • Engineering Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Alternative experience and degrees will be considered on a case by case basis.

  • NDT Level III Certification. ASNT ACCP Level III certification in MT and UT required

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing or quality role

  • Knowledge of visual, ultrasonic, radiographic, dye penetrant, and/or magnetic particle inspection testing methods and techniques

  • Knowledge of various tools and equipment assigned to the NDT inspection area.
