Description: Digital Content Associate

The San Diego Museum of Man (SDMoM) is seeking a Digital Content Associate to join our highly interconnected and supportive team of creative thinkers, skilled strategists, and talented museum professionals. As part of the Marketing & Communications team, the Digital Content Associate oversees the design, development, and implementation of content strategies for the Museum’s digital platforms. The position is technical and editorial in nature, with the Digital Content Associate responsible for all digital marketing content initiatives to ensure customer engagement, brand consistency, and a positive customer experience.

The Digital Content Associate will manage the front and back-end of the Museum’s website, and monitor and report on web traffic analytics and metrics to identify best practices. He/she will also manage all digital platforms–with the exception of social media which is managed by the Marketing & Communications Associate–including, but not limited to, Google Analytics, Google AdWords, and Constant Contact.

Duties broadly include supporting the Marketing & Communications team’s strategic goals concerning advertising, marketing, communications, and public relations for the Museum.

The Digital Content Associate reports to the Marketing & Communications Manager and is expected to work collaboratively with the Marketing & Communications Associate and with other departments and individuals throughout the Museum.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Marketing & Communications Manager, the Digital Content Associate performs the following:

  • Serve as the primary project manager for all digital initiatives, with the exception of social media which is managed by the Marketing &Communications Associate, working closely with stakeholders throughout the Museum.

  • Broadly support increases in email subscribers, social media followers, museum attendance, and membership through daily activities and projects.

  • Oversee the Museum’s website:

  • Manage web design and structure, as well as back-end system maintenance and performance

  • Manage website content, proofing and editing text for proper grammar and institutional style, and coordinating content with stakeholders throughout the Museum

  • Optimize web content for better SEO

  • Manage, create content for, and report on metrics from the following platforms:

  • Google Analytics

  • Kissmetrics Anayltics

  • Google AdWords

  • Manage Constant Contact e-marketing platform:

  • Create and send eblasts to promote exhibits, events, educational programs, and other Museum offerings

  • Manage email lists, adding members and cleaning data as appropriate

  • Ensure e-branding compliance across all email communications

  • Supervise reputation management online on peer review websites such as Yelp and TripAdvisor. Deliver responses and report feedback.

  • In partnership with the Marketing & Communications Associate, create audio and visual content, including videos and photographs, for use in social media and other marketing.

  • Serve as the photographer/videographer and editor of content

  • Manage event listings and Museum profiles on various sites online and in print.

  • Create online ticket listings and manage ticketing website.

  • Together with the Marketing & Communications Manager, discuss and refine the Museum’s digital marketing strategy.

  • Establish, implement, and maintain project management procedures around the website and public-facing digital media efforts.

  • Investigate new marketing opportunities. Identify, analyze, and surface high potential options.

  • Work evening and weekend events as needed.

  • Help with other tasks as needed and as time allows.

Experience, Education, or Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, or another business-related field or commensurate experience required.

  • Excellent proficiency with web content management systems, particularly WordPress, and knowledge of HTML.

  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • Excellent proficiency in Constant Contact or other e-marketing software, Google AdWords, and Google Analytics.

  • Experience in photography and videography preferred.

  • Experience with Photoshop, iMovie, and InDesign is a plus.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail with a keen eye for consistency, accuracy, and detail.

  • Strong analytical skills with proven experience evaluating and reporting data.

  • Creative, innovative, and technical mindset.

  • Self-starter who can work independently with little direction.

  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple processes and projects.

  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing environments.

  • Ability to conceptualize and develop strategies.

  • Ability and willingness to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Knowledge of community, the arts, museums, and non-profit environments preferred.
