Daylight Solutions Laser System Assembler in San Diego, California

The Manufacturing Laser Assembler at Daylight will be responsible for material preparation, electro-optical-mechanical assembly, material inspection and calibration in a manufacturing environment. The candidate will also perform rework on assemblies and/or systems in response to failures and nonconformance. This position requires a self-motivated, ambitious individual with the ability to work in a busy and rapidly changing manufacturing environment. This position will be cross trained on both production lines: 75% to the laser system assembly line and 25% to the fiber optic cable assembly line.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, build electro-optical assemblies to meet performance specifications, in particular laser system sub-assemblies and assemblies.

  • Perform incoming inspection for mechanical components utilizing standard inspection tools

  • Calipers, height gauge, gauge pins, finish standards

  • Record work artifacts clearly and accurately on inspection reports, production tickets, and computer databases

  • Troubleshoot and perform problem isolation on LRU sub-assembly components

  • Maintain data systems to record and report test results

  • Maintain a professional work space and environment

  • Follow all policies and procedures

  • Set up and maintain work stations

  • Meet output and quality goals

  • Provide continuous improvement feedback on procedures and processes

  • Maintain cleanroom environment

  • Perform engineering-designed experiments

  • Utilize online databases to transact material, and review drawings and bills of material.

  • Able to work extended hours if necessary.

  • Maintain a professional work space and environment.

  • Able to complete a 1 year training/indoctrination into the hired position before submission for transfer within the DLS/DLD organization

  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required. AS degree or comparable level laser or optics courses is preferred.

  • 1 year experience in laser, photonics or high technology manufacturing is desired.

  • Familiarity with clean room protocol desired.

  • Proficient hand soldering skills desired.

  • Previous experience with Mid-IR lasers, work at a start-up company, and/or work on new products is beneficial.

  • Currently active SECRET level security clearance or active within the previous 2 years preferred. Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain/maintain a SECRET level security clearance.
