Quidel is searching for a Software Development Engineer to work at our R&D Facility in the Sorrento Valley area of San Diego. This role works in a highly collaborative R&D environment with multidisciplinary teams to support an array of diverse software development projects related to the commercialization of diagnostic instrumentation platforms. Responsibilities for this role are:

  • Design, develop and implement embedded system control software to support the development of diagnostic instrumentation. Collaborate with cross-functional groups to ensure that software specifications meet the expectations of all stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain roadmap of product software lifecycle concepts and evolving versions.

  • Consult with Information Systems (IS) to develop software that enables common connectivity across all product lines. Develop system specification to support cellular requirements and deployment of cloud applications.

  • Proactively acquire knowledge of legacy products to understand software interactions and assay dependencies. Develop and implement software optimization strategies, lead troubleshooting and drive software revision initiatives as required.

  • Develop software analysis tools and analytical methods to solve instrument-to-assay compatibility issues.

  • Develop robust and reliable software infrastructure components, documentation and procedures that support efficient utilization of software systems.

  • Participate on design teams, supports project deliverables, goals, timelines, and provides Software Engineering direction to ensure product success.

  • Conduct early and ongoing communication of project status to all stakeholders.

  • Develop software validation strategies, protocols and implementation plans to support instrument launch and commercialization.

  • Consult on software troubleshooting and support implementation of software revisions.

  • Write reports, protocols and other documentation to support Design Control.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Preferably a degree in Computer Science and minimum 2-4 years (Master Degree) or 3-6 years (Bachelor Degree) of experience, in a medical device or consumer electronics environment.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience with common scripting languages (Python/Perl/Ruby/Groovy) preferred.

  • Demonstrated coding experience with object-oriented programming language such as C++, Java, C# or Python.

  • Familiarity with software development best practices including source control systems, unit testing, and documentation.

  • Platform knowledge with Linux, Android, Windows Embedded prefrerred.

  • SQL Database knowledge preferred

  • Experience in QSR (Quality System Regulations).

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Knowledge of Design Control preferred

  • Experience managing projects employing OEM partners.
